  • About the product

The Chemex was designed in 1939 by Dr. Peter J. Schlumbohm, a German chemist and coffee lover. He put all his experience of filtering techniques and extraction processes into the project and the extraordinary design even earned him a permanent place in the exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Even back then, Peter Schlumbohm was keen to make people's everyday lives easier. However, he initially studied chemistry and had no real connection to coffee, other than the fact that he himself liked to drink filter coffee. Thanks to his years of work as a chemist, Schlumbohm was familiar with extraction methods. And it was precisely this experience that he then combined with coffee preparation. To be more precise, he took the Erlenmeyer flask as a model and developed the Chemex.

  • Things to know about Chemex

The Chemex is a preparation method that has a decades-long tradition. The Chemex was actually invented in the USA in 1941. However, the Chemex does not originate directly from the USA. It was invented by the German scientist Dr. Peter Schlumbohm in New York. Even then, the Chemex coffee maker achieved cult status. However, the preparation method did not really gain momentum until 2002.

Chemex Coffee Maker

Chemex Coffeemaker - Unique taste

The Chemex coffee maker uses filter paper that is around 20 - 30% thicker than conventional filter paper. This means that suspended particles and oils in the coffee are bound and filtered out even better. This is also evident in the profile of the cup. It tastes a little clearer and more nuanced than coffee prepared using a hand filter.

Chemex Coffeemaker as a Shooting Star

Just two years after its invention, the Chemex coffee maker was given a place in the New York Museum of Modern Arts and was awarded the design prize by the Illinois Institute of Technology. James Bond also used the Chemex in the novel "From Russia with Love" and enjoyed two cups of black coffee without milk or sugar.
