Story
From 1830 to 1834, Charles, the second Earl Grey, served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. While we all know that the British love their tea, it is unclear how this particular blend of black tea and citrusy bergamot became known as Earl Grey. There are many legends surrounding the origin of the famous tea blend.
One version says that it was created accidentally when Chinese diplomats sent a container of tea and bergamot oranges to Earl Grey. The tea is said to have absorbed the essence of the fruit during transport. Another legend says that the tea blend was invented by a Chinese mandarin to mask the sharp mineral taste of the Grey estate's water. In the 1830s, a London tea shop is said to have released the blend at Earl Grey's request. However, the details of the story are unknown. Regardless, this famous tea blend has been a popular favorite for two centuries.

Tea is one of Tanzania's most important agricultural products, along with cloves, cashews, coffee and maize. The CTC method of processing tea is the most important production method in Tanzania, as in the rest of Africa. Tea is a source of wealth and employment in rural Tanzania, ensuring the well-being of over 50,000 families.
Large parts of Tanzania are too dry for tea cultivation, and only 22,000 hectares of the total land area are used for tea production, about one twentieth of the area. There are three main growing areas in Tanzania: the southern highlands around the Njombe and Mufindi districts in the Iringa region, the East Usambara plantations near the coast in the Tanga region, and the north-west area around the southern western shore of Lake Victoria.
