AeroPress recipe and history - from Frisbee to coffee

What does a Frisbee have to do with coffee? Actually, not much, many people think, but yes! We present: an AeroPress recipe and the history of this interesting brewing method!

It is a real lightweight and impresses with its extremely easy handling and the interesting AeroPress recipes. Consisting of 4 parts , the AeroPress is the ideal preparation method for travelling, for trips into nature and of course also for enjoying fine coffee at home. The AeroPress is actually quite simple. It consists of the brewing vessel, the press piston and the filter holder, into which the specially developed small filter paper is inserted. The paper ensures that the natural suspended particles and oils do not get into your cup and prevents bitter substances from developing. One thing can be said right away: There is no such thing as the perfect recipe. There are many different recipes that simply depend on each person's taste. That's why we don't like to talk about the perfect AeroPress recipe , but rather about a preparation recommendation .

AeroPress & History - How the filter method was developed

The AeroPress story is not that old. The unusual brewing method is probably the most innovative invention in the coffee world in the 21st century . The American scientist Alan Adler, whose company Aerobie Inc. was actually developing Frisbees and other aerodynamic toys, was bothered by the fact that he could not brew just one cup of filter coffee with the common filter coffee machines. He faced his problem and started the development.

It took over 40 prototypes to create the AeroPress we know today. The AeroPress came onto the market in 2005, but it didn't really take off until 2008. Various AeroPress recipes with a wide variety of coffee types were quickly developed. Today, the compact maker is known all over the world and is very successful. The invention also had a major impact on the global coffee industry and especially on the specialty coffee sector, as the AeroPress brings out the puristic taste of the various coffee specialties.

AeroPress Recipe & History - From Michigan to the world

As just mentioned, the AeroPress and its history had a far-reaching influence on the global coffee industry. For the first time, individual cups of coffee from certain countries were served in various specialty cafes. What has now become standard for us was not the case at that time. Little by little, cafes expanded their menus and offered a wide selection of different AeroPress recipes . Single-cup brewers became really fashionable and other manufacturers also benefited from this trend, which actually continues to this day. Brewing devices such as the Hario V60 or the Origami Dripper became increasingly popular and enjoyed increasing growth.

AeroPress recipe - versatile, fast, tasty

Let's move on to the AeroPress recipe. There are lots of different variations . That's simply because the AeroPress is very versatile. You can prepare pretty much any recipe in the futuristic brewer, from espresso to Americano to cold brew . Of course, AeroPress espresso tastes completely different to that from a portafilter machine, for example. The small paper filter ensures that the coffee's natural oils are filtered out. This creates a fruity, floral end result. In terms of taste, AeroPress recipes are much gentler and very soft . Another characteristic of coffee from the AeroPress is the natural cloudiness that the end result gives you. The degree of roasting is very important. Dark roasts create chocolaty, nutty notes, while medium to light roasts produce exciting fruity, almost syrupy-sweet notes .

As you can see, there is simply no perfect AeroPress recipe. You can experiment with the AeroPress until you find your ideal end result. Nevertheless, here is a small preparation recommendation - our favorite AeroPress recipe:

You need: 20 g of coffee (ground a little coarser), e.g. Kenia Kangiri , 240 ml of water (89-94 degrees), of course the AeroPress and the filter paper.

1. Put both brewing pistons together and place the filter paper in the holder. Rinse both the brewing piston and the filter with a little hot water.

2. Now fill in the coffee and align it so that a straight coffee bed is created.

3. Pour about 60ml of water in circular movements and let it steep for 20 seconds.

4. Now pour the remaining 180ml of water slowly and constantly in circular movements.

5. Now close the AeroPress with the filter holder, turn it over and place it on a stable container - e.g. the Kinto serving jug. Allow it to brew for another 60 seconds.

6. Now press the piston down. The process takes about 60 seconds.

7. Now you can enjoy your fresh coffee.
