Easy to prepare at home -
Hario Cold Brew Maker
You can easily make an excellent cold brew at home, according to your own preferences. There are many different ways to do this. Let's start with the simplest: making cold brew coffee with the Hario Cold Brew Maker ! As the name suggests, the coffee is brewed or extracted in the Cold Brew Maker with cold water instead of warm water. Why extract?
Cold Brew is prepared using the direct extraction method. This means that 70% less acids and bitter substances are released from the coffee than with the brewing method. For the Cold Brew Coffee Maker, we use 75 - 100g of coffee , which should be ground very coarsely. The degree of roasting of the coffee is also important for Cold Brew. Our selected medium roasted coffees are ideal for preparation as Cold Brew.
Which coffee you choose depends entirely on your taste preferences. Milk chocolate with notes of apricot - Guatemala Santa Isabel , or perhaps something more floral with tasty notes of stone fruit - Ethiopia Guji . Just try them out. Once you have put the ground coffee in the filter of your cold brew maker , all you have to do is add cold water until the filter is completely covered. Now put it in the fridge overnight, or for at least 12 hours, and let it extract in peace. Now just serve and enjoy. Of course, you can take the bottle of cold brew coffee with you wherever you go.
Preparation is also possible without a cold brew coffee maker
Tasty cold brew coffee can also be made using many other methods and even without expensive equipment. As a rule of thumb: use 100 - 150g of coffee per liter of water . Put the ground coffee in a suitable container and pour cold water over it directly. Stir well once and then cover with cling film and extract again in the refrigerator for 12 hours . After extraction, you can pour the extracted coffee through a hand filter or, even better, the Chemex so that the ground coffee is filtered out of the cold brew. Now just serve as desired and enjoy.
Cold brew from the French press!
Are you the lucky owner of a French press? For example, the highly elegant Hario French press with olive wood ? Then we have good news for you, because the French press is also an ideal maker for tasty cold brew coffee. Put 75-90 grams of coarsely ground coffee into the French press , fill it with 650ml of water and put the lid on with the plunger pulled in. Put the French press in the fridge overnight or for another 12 hours . After extraction, press the plunger down and pour the finished cold brew into a container, e.g. a glass bottle. The cold brew is ready.
Prepare cold brew coffee in just a few minutes - is that possible?
There is actually a method that allows you to prepare delicious cold brew in just a few minutes. It works with the AeroPress ! The contact between the ground coffee and the water must be optimized so that the coffee's full flavors are efficiently extracted. This starts with the right grind! In contrast to the other cold brew recipes, the grind is much finer. It should be roughly the same grind as the stovetop pot . The amount should be between 15-20 g .
If you meet all of these requirements, you can start preparing the coffee. Put the coffee in the brewing piston of your AeroPress and pour cold water over it in constant circular movements up to the mark 1. This is about 60-70 ml of water. Then stir the brew vigorously for a minute. Now gently press the press piston down.
The extract for your cold brew coffee has now been created. You can now pour ice water over it as you like and garnish with ice cubes and an orange slice. Our medium roasts are also best here. We recommend the Ethiopia Guji again, which impresses with a fruity, floral cup profile. Of course, the cold brew coffee from the AeroPress is different from the usual recipes. However, it is a very time-saving and still flavorful solution. The acids in the coffee come through a little better in the AeroPress, which is why the fruity notes and the sweetness of the selected coffee come through better. Just give it a try!
