The fine floral notes of oolong teas are further enhanced by the delicate osmanthus blossoms in this traditional form . Kwai Flower Oolong is a traditional Chinese oolong tea. Lightly oxidized and mixed with osmanthus blossoms, it has a fine floral taste that is slightly reminiscent of peach.

  • About the tea

    Oolong teas are a feast for the eyes and the palate. Traditionally, oolongs are rolled into artistic ball shapes. When brewed, they unfold into large, curly leaves.

    Of all types of tea, oolong teas have the greatest range of degrees of oxidation. The slightly oxidized ones, with around 15% oxidation, are reminiscent of white tea. Oolong teas with 70% oxidation are already similar in taste to Darjeeling black teas. In between there is a colorful bouquet of many exciting varieties.

Preparation recommendation

Since the degree of oxidation of the China Kwai Flower tea is quite low, you should be careful not to let the tea brew too much. If the water is too hot or the tea is brewed for too long, it can develop a bitter or tart taste in the cup.

In addition, it is always better if you brew the loose leaf tea directly in the pot instead of using tea bags: If you let the loose leaf tea fully develop in the pot, your tea has the chance to fully develop and you get the full potential of taste and aroma.

Story

Oolong teas are a separate category of tea, like green tea and black tea. They all come from the same plant, Camellia Sinensis, but they differ from each other in the way they are processed after harvest.

The degree of oxidation of the leaves is almost zero in green tea, which is why it retains its green color and fresh/grassy flavor, while the degree of oxidation in black tea is very high, which gives it its malty flavor. Oolong teas go through the same process steps as black teas, but the oxidation is stopped before the leaves are fully oxidized.

This is why oolong teas can be so different: the degree of oxidation can range from 10% to 80%, resulting in very different flavor profiles in the cup. There is also a wide range in shape and color.

This Chinese oolong is also known as peach tea. The fresh tea is spread out on bamboo mats together with osmanthus flowers. This way, the tea absorbs the delicate aroma of the flowers. After processing, only small traces of the delicate flowers can be found in the tea.
