This very special coffee is one of the first specialty coffees from Europe. It is cultivated on the island of La Palma, which belongs to Spain. The coffee trees thrive on the Finca Anthea in the east of the island at an altitude of just 354 meters.

Country of origin: Spain, Canary Islands
    Cultivation height: 354 m

  • About the origin

At the beginning of the 21st century, during the 3rd coffee wave, interest in coffee cultivation in La Palma slowly returned. The island government, known as the Cabildo, tried to get coffee cultivation back on La Palma by holding regular workshops and information days. However, the first successes have only been seen recently. The two farmers Rosa Pombrol and Jens Kimmel, who grow the Geisha and Castillo varieties on their finca "Anthea Cafe", are responsible for the first new coffees from La Palma.

Specialty Coffee from Europe - Geisha

Two different varieties are currently being cultivated on the Finca Anthea Café in the east of the island of La Palma: Castillo and Geisha! Castillo is a variety that is typically grown in Colombia. A friend of the farmer, José, brought this variety to La Palma around 20 years ago and thereby ensured the return of coffee cultivation on the Canary Island. Geisha is a real specialty among specialty coffees. The variety originally comes from Ethiopia. However, the unusual variety only became really well known through a subspecies that was bred and developed in Panama.

The La Palma Geisha is therefore a very special specialty because it thrives in Europe. This coffee is processed using milk fermentation. After harvesting, the cherries are placed in a tank for 240 hours and fermented using anaerobic maceration. In addition, water from the Taburiente caldera filtered in volcanic rock and the ash from the volcano are added. The entire processing is managed and monitored by a professional coffee producer. The La Palma Geisha coffee is lightly roasted in our coffee roastery. This exquisite specialty coffee is ideal for preparing as filter coffee. You can expect a taste of roses with fine notes of orange blossom and yellow stone fruits.
